Nike’s voice
Write with confidence, momentum, and a clear connection to athletic effort. Use compact headline statements and vivid, purposeful language; make product innovation easy to understand and connect it to what athletes do. Nike’s copy can also be playful when the subject calls for it.
- “You can’t be fast on Sunday if you don’t train fast on Tuesday”
- “Move effortlessly all day with new NikeSKIMS outerwear, updated performance pieces, and a fresh new color palette”
- “Meet the wildest band of animals barreling down (and up) Earth’s many trails”
- “Work without compromise in the new Nike Hybrid RN”
Dos and don’ts
Do
- Keep the Swoosh’s shape intact and use it as a confident, uncluttered identity mark.
- Lead with concise, energetic headlines and connect performance language to athletic movement or a product benefit.
- Let campaign imagery express the sport, athlete, product, and setting together, paired with clear, direct copy.
- Match the tone to the subject: performance storytelling can be assertive, while ACG copy can be adventurous and wry.
Don’t
- Don’t distort, redraw, or obscure the Swoosh.
- Don’t turn specific product claims into universal brand promises. Keep claims tied to their product and stated context.
- Don’t use co-branded marks as substitutes for Nike’s standalone identity.
- Don’t make every message sound like a technical product specification; Nike also speaks in short, motivating statements and human, playful language.
More from the Brand Skill
Imagery
Use athletic imagery that gives a sense of movement, effort, and purpose. Nike’s visual storytelling places athletes and products in sport-specific settings, and also uses clean product-focused images to show form, detail, and material. Keep the setting and treatment relevant to the sport, activity, or product story.
Use Nike’s own product images and interface screenshots as references for product presentation and shopping experiences. Keep category-specific campaigns, athlete features, and special collections relevant to their context; they are examples of Nike’s varied creative rather than universal templates.
Product Claims
Make performance and technology claims specific, evidence-based, and tied to the product or test that supports them. Nike React is described in terms of responsiveness, softness, durability, and lightweight cushioning. The cited Infinity Run injury comparison is limited to the named shoe, the stated comparator, and the study conditions.
For sustainability messaging, use precise scope, baseline, and date when presenting targets or progress. Nike frames sustainability alongside product innovation, athlete performance, and reducing environmental impact.
Web UI
Nike.com’s desktop interface uses a light presentation with white backgrounds, dark text, and restrained black accents. Buttons are rounded, compact, and set in Helvetica Now Text at medium weight; links use Helvetica Now Text. Layout spacing ranges from tight small gaps to generous separation between major page areas.
In commerce flows, keep product names, product imagery, price information, and purchasing or navigation actions easy to scan. The cart and category pages use clear sections, recommendations, and straightforward labels.
