About McDonald's

McDonald’s is a global restaurant brand built around familiar food, quick ordering, and everyday convenience. Its public-facing voice pairs an instantly recognizable identity with approachable, energetic language.

Use the standalone Golden Arches as McDonald’s primary identity artwork. Preserve the mark’s shape and proportions; do not redraw, distort, or add effects to it.

McDonald's’s voice

Write in a friendly, direct, energetic voice. Favor short sentences, contractions, playful asides, and familiar everyday language. Make benefits tangible and keep the invitation clear without sounding formal or technical.

  • “Make any day fry day”
  • “Get more than you expect (and for less)”
  • “Because who wants to wait in line? Not you”
  • “You do you”

Dos and don’ts

Do

  • Use McDonald’s Gold as the recognizable accent and keep text easy to read against it.
  • Use Speedee for headings, body copy, and interface actions.
  • Write with direct, everyday phrasing and a playful, personable touch.
  • Keep offer details and qualifications together with the offer they describe.

Don’t

  • Don’t distort or redraw the Golden Arches.
  • Don’t make copy sound stiff or overcomplicated when a plain, conversational phrase will do.
  • Don’t separate an offer from its qualifying details.

More from the Brand Skill

Accessibility

Design digital experiences to support inclusive ordering and navigation. McDonald’s states that its digital accessibility work is guided by W3C recommendations, including WCAG, and is tested periodically with assistive technology users. Its U.S. restaurants also describe accessible ordering options such as Braille menus, large-print and picture menus, kiosk magnification, reach mode, and audio navigation.

Campaign and brand imagery

Use McDonald’s campaign and brand photography as references for promotional storytelling, seasonal offers, product launches, community, and corporate communications. The brand’s own campaigns combine expressive product imagery with approachable copy and a clear promotional focus.

Food imagery

Use the McDonald’s menu and product imagery as references for presenting food and beverages. Keep the item itself clear and recognizable, and use the images in context: menu tiles, product pages, promotional modules, or category navigation. The menu spans breakfast, burgers, chicken, sides, desserts, coffee, drinks, and sauces.

Product and digital experience imagery

Preserve McDonald’s own product and digital experience imagery when creating related work. Examples include ordering ahead, choosing a pickup method, loyalty, delivery, app promotion, and the locator interface. Use these as references for McDonald’s digital service communication.
