Lick’s voice
Lick sounds warm, confident, and helpful. Speak as an approachable decorating expert: make colour and decorating feel inviting and achievable, without assuming the reader is experienced. Be direct, specific, and encouraging. Use British English spelling and familiar decorating language.
Lick’s own copy models an assured, practical promise: “Made with real paint for 100% colour accuracy.” It welcomes people into the process: “Whether you’re a keen decorator or you’ve never picked up a paintbrush, we’ve got all you need to get started. Let’s decorate.”
For home and colour inspiration, pair an evocative emotional benefit with useful guidance: “your living room should be a space that feels as inviting as it looks.” For expert support, sound encouraging and personal: “we’re here to help every step of the way.”
Prefer plain-language explanations, concise statements, and a friendly first-person plural. Make product benefits concrete, and connect them to the home, the decorating process, or the feeling a space can create.

Dos and don’ts
Do
- Use Lick’s serif wordmark as the brand identifier, and keep it intact.
- Build layouts on warm neutrals and Lick Teal, with Coral and Sage as purposeful accents.
- Set headings in Clearface and reading text in Basis Grotesque Pro; keep Basis Grotesque Pro Mono for product names and labels.
- Write in a warm, encouraging, knowledgeable voice that makes decorating feel achievable.
- Connect product benefits to practical decorating outcomes and to how a room can feel.
Don’t
- Don’t redraw, stretch or reset the Lick wordmark in another typeface.
- Don’t present digital paint imagery as a guarantee of exact real-world colour; invite sampling and viewing in the customer’s own light.
- Don’t make decorating sound exclusive to experts or intimidating to beginners.
- Don’t use generic, overblown product claims where Lick’s own copy supports a concrete performance or home benefit.
More from the Brand Skill
Interior imagery
Show real, welcoming homes transformed by colour. Use lived-in interiors, recognisable rooms, and considered colour choices rather than abstract colour alone. Let the paint and room atmosphere lead; natural-looking light and complementary furnishings help the shade feel at home. Lick’s editorial framing often connects colour to a mood—calm, cosy, light, or energising—and offers ideas for specific rooms.
Use room photography to demonstrate colour in context, including walls, ceilings, woodwork, and built-in features. For colour inspiration, pair a clear shade name with a brief description of its undertones or mood, and show the shade in an interior.
Customer-home imagery is part of Lick’s decorating-community storytelling. Present it as lived-in inspiration and associate it with the relevant shade where that context is available.
Product experience
Lick’s digital product experience guides visitors from inspiration to a confident decorating choice. Organize information around recognizable ways to explore: colour, mood, finish, room, wallpaper design, and product type. Give people practical next steps through real-paint samples, curated sample bundles, the colour quiz, and consultations.
Make sample selection feel low-risk and useful: explain that samples can be moved between walls and viewed in different lighting. Present product photography and shade information together, and keep the path from browsing to sample or paint purchase clear.
Show LickStudio as a personal design-advice experience. Explain the consultation format and give the customer room to share their space, project, and inspiration before making recommendations.
For LickPro work, speak to professional decorators and focus on performance, durability, coverage, and professional use. Keep this product line distinct from homeowner-facing Lick communications when the task specifically concerns LickPro.
Product imagery
Present Lick paint through the actual colour and the home it can create. Product listings pair a colour sample with a room or application image; use that contrast to help people compare shades while retaining the colour’s own character. Do not rely on screen imagery alone to promise exact paint appearance: Lick emphasizes real-paint samples for colour accuracy and encourages testing samples in different walls and lighting.
Show wallpaper as pattern and texture in a real decorating context, while keeping the repeat and print visually clear. The range includes floral, botanical, stripe, geometric, and mural designs; product imagery should make the print easy to judge.
For decorating tools, show useful, durable objects and their materials. LickTools imagery can feature bamboo, sugarcane pulp, recycled materials, brushes, rollers, trays, tape, and dust sheets. Keep the tone practical and purposeful, with the tool’s function apparent.
